Integrating AI into a retail system
The Ask
Metis Europe were tasked with enhancing the user experience for a prominent internet retailer. To assist with this our team was approached to integrate ChatGPT into their website.
Although the technical integration of a third-party AI system appeared an easy task, there were concerns regarding the project’s direction. The customer tasked Metis Europe to define the project goal, approach, and give guidance to steer it back on course.
The Challenge
After engaging with the team, it became apparent that there was a notable absence, within the customer’s team, of a defined user benefit for the integration of AI. As a result this lack of clarity led to a divergence in the identified needs.
Consequently, the technical solution was in danger of missing the mark completely. Essentially the project was at risk of overspending with nothing of benefit to show for it.
Our Work
Collaborating closely with users, sales stakeholders, and the project-championing Directors, we successfully pinpointed and collectively agreed upon the key user benefits, thereby establishing a pivotal business differentiator. Through coordination with the customer’s technology teams, we identified crucial interfaces, dependencies, and essential infrastructure changes necessary to guarantee optimal system performance.
Additionally, in anticipation of the system’s ongoing maintenance, we recognised the need for a comprehensive training and support package, which we helped to develop. This acknowledging the periodic updates essential for sustained functionality.
